Osha Certification

(1) shall furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees;


(2) shall comply with occupational safety and health standards promulgated under this Act.

(b) Each employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to this Act which are applicable to his own actions and conduct.
  • To make sure the employees are certified the employer must make available training. There are two different options available to employers when it comes to training. They can use the traditional option, in class and attempt to find a suitable location and instructor or the second option would be, online training. The online training seems to be the most attractive option. You can search online and find the one that fits your company needs and schedule.

  • Once you have setup the online training you can train anytime, anywhere – All you need is a computer and access to the Internet
  • Log on and off as often as you like to work at your own pace
  • Course trainer email access for any questions you have
  • 24/7 course access

OSHA did setup  time line for January 1, 2010 stating unless approved for an alternative course, construction employees must complete an OSHA 10 hour training course and construction supervisors must complete an OSHA 30 hour training course.

OSHA certification:
States have adopted Safety and Health programs that involve OSHA training, certain states require OSHA 10 hour training to complete construction contracts and public work projects. Recent states that have passed laws requiring OSHA 10 hour safety training including New York, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Missouri and Nevada.


OSHA certification cards expire after 5 years and you can renew it at anytime. If you currently have an OSHA card it must have obtained it within the last 5 years, if not you must get a new OSHA certification card.

Within 15 days of employment or being hired, if the employee cannot produce a certification card the employer must suspend or terminate the employee or until the certification card is obtained.

A few tips regarding OSHA training:

  • Employers are generally responsible for the cost of OSHA training.
  • Jobs that require OSHA safety training also includes electricians, hazardous waste and disaster clean-up personnel, CPR and Fall responders.
  • Certification obtained for one employer may not be transferrable to another employer.
  • Make sure the training program you choose is authorized and licensed in your state.

The purpose of OSHA is to make sure the company you work for, provides a safe work environment.
